| Hello. In 2007 I purchased my first Nigerian Dwarf Goat and have been hooked on them ever since. At present I am working on building Three Registered Herds: - Nigerian Dwarf Herd Nubian Herd Mini-Nubian herd. I've absorbed so much info since then from chatting with breeders, attending goat club meetings, and of course intensely reseaching online and joining online goat lists. I have been very selective in purchasing from lines that I think spell MILK, NICE Udders, & Nice Conformation. I don't want JUST a show animal or JUST a great milk producer. I want the combination of both within all of my goats eventually. Hence you will notice I am trying to incorporate strong milking lines into show quality stock. I've noticed that sometimes you see herds with one or the other...lots of say GCH animals with no milking stars or milking stars but just poor conformation. I should note to upfront that I work full time Monday thru Friday 8-5. With so many goats...well as of right now anyway I won't be able to keep all my does in milk etc. Being one person and to manage my herds my method is that I only allow so many does to be in milk at a time via hand milking currently as I would not be able to keep up with them all. The does I plan to show that year I will attempt to keep in milk from freshening through the show period. I have not yet figured out how to manage getting on AR milk testing with my schedule so taking things one step at a time. In late 09 we attend our first and only goat show ever. I'd been so anxious to show but we had my house (our second house) to sell and finances were tight up until then. Well for a first show and having no clue what to do really...well I was thrilled with the outcome. By that I mean your goes need to know how to lead properly for show and the person showing....well there is some talent/tact in it I didn't have yet. We had a buck that was GCH over all other nubians, and had some 3rds and by that I was thrilled since my girls didn't get much pre-training and I didn't have a clue how to properly clip. That and NOT having I clue I milked my girls out the night before only to learn the next morning you DON'T do that...so they really were not shown to their full potential..or at least their udders certainly weren't! :) We came in a bit rough around the edges if you know what I mean but I was smiling all the way home as for a first time at show...and with such stiff competition (well known breeders who have been doing it for years) we did really great. That and we brought our "easiest to handle" stock as going to the show was last minute so didn't have time to work with the others. So that said...I am SO EXCITED for 09 as I can't wait to see how we do as then we'll have a better idea what to expect and how to better prepare our animals. I'm also contemplating Linear Appraisal as would love to know a judge's thoughts on all of our animals. So take a look at our animal's lines, conformation, udders, etc and I think you will be very impressed. We have some outstanding bucks and does here and although all haven't yet made it to the show ring I'm confident they'll all produce high quality kids. PLEASE NOTE I WILL ONLY LIST WINNINGS OF 1st, 2nd, & 3rd place show results on our website. Goats may have had additional placings but will stick to these for the website as otherwise it'd be a clutter and the truth is...well everyone is always really looking to see if they've made those high scores right? :) Additionally I have come to notice that with the mini-nubian breed, which is still rather new and up and coming, many breeders are working hard at breed character but it "appears" they are not very focused on udders and milk production. I will be starting from the ground up using does with quality udders and milk production to produce a line of mini-nubians that are "dairy" mini-nubians. This may require starting from scratch but will pay off in the end. I've also selected a few NOA does but this is due to the fact that I have seen their dam's udders and found them impressive so want to incorporate them as well. I'll be putting up photos of their udders etc on this site as find most other mini-nubian breeders don't seem to do this and I feel it's important. You will find this site is updated often as I am constantly adding to the herd and learning new things. I'm not going to pretend to be a pro at goats yet. I'm NOT. I'm not sure I'll ever feel confident enough to even say that LOL. :) I've learned a ton in the last two years and am eager to keep absorbing new info. So far I'm loving every minute of it. These breeds are a joy to be around. So WHY should you want a goat? I've learned that goats are great for many reasons. They are hilarious pets, that produce tasty milk, that you can also make soap with, or cheese with, or ice cream with...etc. Now how many animals are out there that are that well rounded. Oh and the other big plus is they eat things such as poison ivy etc and like it with no ill effect. If you have horses the goats prefer the weeds and horses the grass leaving you one very nice pasture. If you have never had goats then your missing out! :) NOTE: We do not butcher/kill goats. Our goats are all milkers &/or pets. Also please note that although I also consider my goats as pets we DO breed for milking goats and I am try to gather some strong milking lines in my registered herds. I've paid a high price for many of these breeding stock animals and am working hard to ensure my herd stays healthy and clean and all animals are tested. Thus price in their kids reflects that but if you want a quality goat...well it just simply cannot be pet quality price if you know what I mean as I couldn't afford to buy and breed them then. Our goats are very loved and well cared for. Please email Rhythmic_Acres@yahoo.com with questions. Thanks for stopping by! |
