Shire Cross Mare

MOUSE
Mouse is an extremely special mare to me because she belonged to a dear friend,
Carol Cranmore. Carol adored Mouse and always spoke extremely fondly of her. She
saw Mouse at an auction, fell in love with her sweet demeanor and large size and
rescued her. Mouse came to produce many truly gorgeous foals for Carol. I say that
objectively as her foals have all been gorgeous, taller then Mouse, and with great
bone and conformation.

Carol passed away this year and it was a shock to all that knew her. Her passing was
in relation to complications from an asthma attack. She was such a kind and vibrant
person that it is still hard to accept that she is gone. Carol treated everyone like her
best friend and was always quick to donate to horses in need and rescues and such.
She adored her horses and they adored her. I miss her greatly. This world just won't
be the same without her bright personality here. One should always stay in close
contact with their friends and not let life's hassles get in the way. I am only sorry I
didn't call her more the year before she left this world as I still have so much to say to
her and thank her for in the short time that I knew her. We get busy and sometimes
don't realize there may not be a tomorrow.

I came to know Carol when I bought Rhythm from her. Rhythm is also one of Mouse's
offspring. After that time we stayed in close touch and talked horses often. Having an
older horse myself, Nugget, I appreciated Carol's concern for Mouse's well being
always. Carol knew this as well as it was a discussion we'd had and so after her
passing I received Mouse as indicated by her will. I know what Mouse meant to her
and so each time I pet this old girl I get a lump in my throat. She will forever remain
with us and receive the greatest of love.

When I look at Mouse I think of Carol and the many conversations we've had about
this great grey mare and how she loved her so. Mouse has been a broodmare for
some time so in my brief times around her prior I saw she was nicely put together but
didn't have a full appreciation of Carol's words for her until she arrived here. Her
personality is doting and loving and she is extremely intelligent. She is blind in one eye
though intelligent as can be and it fully compensates for her lack of sight in the one
eye. Additionally when she moves she has a lovely extended trot and she is beauty to
behold. She has a lovely head and a beautiful neck. With the many foals she's had
over the years her back remains strong and she is great shape. She is built like that of
a warmblood. Carol believed Mouse to be a shire cross and I'm inclined to agree as all
of her foals have incredible bone and size and thus I agree she had to have some
draft and it had to be that of a horse with a normal and traditional build unlike most
draft breeds. Seeing her in action and her neck and trot and her stance when
standing I'd also have to wonder if there is any saddlebred there though I don't believe
she is at all gaited.

I will get more pictures of Mouse this spring as these don't really do her justice. Mouse
may possibly be pregnant again. If not then she'll be retired as a broodmare and get
to enjoy the sandy trails with us next spring.

Below is a picture of Carol I'd like to post in her memory. She sent this too me some
time back. It was a photo of her filly, Liberty, she, and Rhythm. It makes me smile as it
is so her...surrounded by horses that love her.  If God has his own set of pearly white
stables then I'm sure Carol is there making sure the horses are loved, well cared for,
and she's hugging and loving on those babies.     Miss ya Carol.
